Why centres still rebuild cards in Canva

Many nurseries still design student ID cards in Canva or Word, then paste photos and QR codes by hand. The design drifts from the live roster: a classroom rename, a new photo, or a regenerated attendance QR means another afternoon of copy-paste.

When the card and the check-in code disagree, teachers waste time at the door and parents lose confidence. student ID cards work best when the same student record that powers attendance rosters and ratios also fills the printable card.

What a solid student ID card includes

One published design should generate every child's card. Staff should not redraw layouts when enrolment changes.

• Centre branding: name, logo, and colours that match your doors and uniforms.
• Child photo and core fields: name, classroom, and any health or pickup cues your policy requires.
• Attendance QR that matches the code teachers and parents already scan.
• Front-only or front-and-back layouts in CR80 portrait or landscape, ready for office duplex or PVC card printers.

Design in Settings, not in a slide deck

From Tools, generate bulk PDFs for many students. Choose A4 sheets with multiple cards per page for long-edge duplex office printing, or card-printer mode with one CR80 page per card side for PVC printers. Print a plain-paper test before card stock.
